HC Deb 21 January 1943 vol 386 c323W
Sir W. Davison

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, before the House is asked to debate the various proposals of the Beveridge Report with their estimated cost, a White Paper will be issued giving estimated approximate particulars of other expenditure for which money will probably be required, such as the Uthwatt Report, etc., assuming the war to end at any given date, so that Members can visualise the urgency of the prospective expenditures?

Sir K. Wood

I fully appreciate my hon. Friend's object, which is very present in my own examination of these matters. I am afraid, however, that on most important questions the settlement of general policy has not yet reached a stage at which it is possible to publish estimates of cost.
