HC Deb 18 February 1943 vol 386 cc1961-2W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that the totalisator receipts for 68 greyhound tracks were approximately £30,750,000 for 1938, £32,000,000 for 1939. £30,000,000 for 1940 and £36,500,000 for 1941, exclusive of debts made with bookmakers; and, as this expenditure does not help the war effort, whether he will take steps to put an end to it?

Mr. H. Morrison

I am obliged to my hon. Friend for bringing these figures to my notice, but I do not feel able to add anything to the views which I have expressed in answer to previous Questions on this subject.
