§ Mr. Noel-BakerAccording to the evidence which I have received the withdrawal of cheap day fares on the railways has not, in general, led to a transfer of passenger traffic from rail to road. The withdrawal has, however, brought about the reduction in non-essential travel for which we hoped. For that reason, and others, I am afraid it would not be right to adopt my hon. Friend's proposal.
