HC Deb 17 February 1943 vol 386 c1761W
Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether there is any town or district in Great Britain, other than St. Andrews, where, under the rationalisation of retail deliveries scheme, all deliveries of composite grocery parcels, except to invalids and similar classes, is prohibited; and, if so, what town or district?

Mr. Noel-Baker

Yes, Sir, there are more than 400 towns and districts in Great Britain where no deliveries of groceries are made, except in cases of hardship. I am sending my hon. Friend some information concerning these towns and districts, and their distribution in different regions of the country. In the meantime, he may, perhaps, be glad to know that they include such places as Bedford, Ipswich, Worcester, Oxford, Peebles and Berwick.
