HC Deb 04 February 1943 vol 386 c1064W
Mr. Channon

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the discharge, after long periods of service, of air-raid wardens, mainly owing to age considerations, he will instruct local employment exchanges to assist sympathetically the efforts of these men to obtain employment?

Mr. Bevin

I have already given instructions that employment exchanges should do their best to find jobs for elderly and disabled men, and in particular, those released from Civil Defence, and that they may place such men in those jobs which, on account of the shortage of men, are now generally reserved for women.
