HC Deb 17 December 1943 vol 395 c1821W
Lieut.-Colonel Acland-Troyte

asked the Secretary of State for War the number of recruiting officers over 63 years of age who were serving on 11th December, 1943, and the number still serving?

Sir J. Grigg

There were on 11th December 30 recruiting officers over 63 years of age. They are all still in employment, but three of them have received notice to terminate employment during this month.

Lieut.-Colonel Acland-Troyte

asked the Secretary of State for War the reason why the services of recruiting officers of 63 years of age are being terminated before those of older men?

Sir J. Grigg

Circumstances have recently made it necessary to reduce the number of army recruiting officers. In selecting officers to be retained in the reduced establishment regard was had solely to their efficiency.
