HC Deb 16 December 1943 vol 395 c1708W
Mr. Liddall

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can give information as to the number, date of release and method of proposed distribution of the radio sets assembled and now awaiting disposal in this country; whether they are of all-American manufacture or what percentage; what profits will be allowed at each stage of distribution; and through how many channels they will pass before reaching the private user?

Captain Waterhouse

Some 70,000 sets of British make are approaching completion in this country. They are being released through normal trade channels at prices regulated under the Prices of Goods Act, 1939. In addition, about 14,000 sets of American manufacture bought in the United States for civilian use have now reached this country, but only a small proportion are as yet ready for distribution. We intend that these sets should be distributed through trade channels, and the distributors' remuneration is now being negotiated.
