HC Deb 16 December 1943 vol 395 cc1707-8W
Mr. Craik Henderson

asked the Minister of Supply what arrangements he has been able to make to secure that adequate supplies of penicillin are available for the civilian population of this country?

Major Lyons

asked the Minister of Supply what progress is being made in the manufacture and availability of penicillin?

Mr. Peat

Arrangements have been made to produce as much penicillin as possible. There is at present only a small quantity, and the total supply will, for some considerable time, be insufficient to meet Service requirements. Limited quantities are, however, being made available, in consultation with the Ministry of Health and the Medical Research Council, for clinical trials. Efforts will also be made, as soon as circumstances permit, to allocate some supplies for the civilian population, but I can give no indication as to when supplies will be generally available.
