§ Sir W. Waylandasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give to registrars of marriages the same discretionary power to reduce fees for a special marriage licence to newly-commissioned officers as the registrars now possess for those soldiers of non-commissioned rank?
§ Miss HorsbrughI have been asked to reply. The case of newly-commissioned officers who are unable to afford the full fees is clearly indistinguishable, on merit, from that of non-commissioned officers and men; and the matter will accordingly be discussed with the local authorities and registration officers concerned, by whom the reduction will fall to be borne.
