HC Deb 05 August 1943 vol 391 c2480W
Mr. Muff

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he is aware that when the shoes and clothes of Women's Royal Naval Service attached to H.M.S. "Tana," and stationed at a place of which he has been informed, need replacement, there are no adequate stores and they have to pay extortionate prices when buying shoes; and whether facilities will be provided at this station for the repair of spectacles?

Mr. Alexander

Owing to the absence of suitable local production, it has been necessary to ship practically all supplies of W.R.N.S. clothing {including shoes) from the United Kingdom to the establishment in question. The exigencies of shipping involved a slight delay some months ago, but for the last six months consignments have been despatched regularly and this will continue. In reply to the last part of the Question, an optical dispensing unit is to be installed shortly at this establishment.
