HC Deb 04 August 1943 vol 391 c2313W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Minister of Town and Country Planning the number of authorities who are planning for building in the Metropolitan areas; and whether he can expedite the publication of the scheme of the City Corporation?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

There are two planning authorities in London for the purposes of preparing a scheme under the Town and Country Planning Acts, 1932 and 1943, namely, the Corporation of the City of London and the London County Council. In case my. hon. Friend has in mind the far wider area for which Professor Abercrombie is at present preparing an outline plan, I would add that there are 138 Statutory Authorities for that area, some of whom are grouped in Joint Committees. In answer to the last part of the Question, the City Corporation have a discretion in deciding at what stage they should make their provisional proposals public, and the question of expediting publication does not at present arise.
