§ Major Lyonsasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he is aware of the difficulties v encountered by women in inaccessible country areas in obtaining any omnibus accommodation for their essential shopping; and whether he will consult with provincial omnibus companies and his regional traffic commissioners to ensure that attention is paid to this matter and some reasonable facilities given?
§ Mr. Noel-BakerThe present urgent need for economy in fuel and tyres must inevitably result in some inconvenience to those who travel by omnibus, and I am aware that the inconvenience is often810W greater in country areas than elsewhere. The Regional Transport Commissioners, however, have endeavoured, and will continue to endeavour, to make arrangements which will avoid real hardship. The matter receives constant and close attention, and if my hon. Friend will let me have particulars of any specific cases which he has in mind, I will look into them. The public can themselves assist by refraining from unnecessary journeys, and thus leaving the accommodation available for those who are obliged to travel.
