§ Sir E. Bennettasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many Members of Parliament have been engaged during the war in full-time Government employment of a civil or military character?
§ Captain CrookshankI have assumed that in his Question my hon. Friend has in mind only hon. Members of this House. So far as I have been able to ascertain 167 have been so engaged at some time during the war: 116 are still thus employed. Twenty-one hon. Members have served, and 15 are still serving, in civilian posts under His Majesty's Government (excluding Ministerial posts but including Regional Commissioners and their Deputies) which are regarded as whole-time or substantially whole-time, the remainder have served or are serving in His Majesty's Forces (excluding those in the Home Guard).
