HC Deb 10 September 1942 vol 383 cc327-8W
Sir P. Harmon

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a statement on the work of the British Council in Northern Ireland in providing assistance for allied merchant seamen?

Mr. Eden

The British Council provide in Northern Ireland for allied merchant seamen, facilities similar to those which they make available in the chief ports of Great Britain. They recently appointed a representative in Northern Ireland. They supply reading material through the Ulster Library and collaborate with the Allied Seamen's Hospitality Committee.
