HC Deb 09 September 1942 vol 383 c167W
Sir P. Harris

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty why the Admiralty has stopped the fishermen spinning for mackerel oft the coast of Cornwall; and whether he will consider suspending this prohibition during the holiday season to enable the fishermen to earn some additional money and, at the same time, provide food for the visitors?

Mr. Alexander

The Admiralty has made no such prohibition and spinning for mackerel may be carried on by registered fishing boats with permits off the Cornish coast in daylight. Surface fishing is allowed even when anchorage and trawling are prohibited, and large specified areas are also available for night fishing.
