HC Deb 09 September 1942 vol 383 cc165-6W
Captain Plugge

asked the Minister of Information how many firms handle educational and war films produced by his Department; whether he will give then-names; whether they enjoy a complete monopoly of exhibition; and to what extent the barring out clauses in specific districts are officially recognised?

Mr. Bracken

The films made by the Ministry for commercial distribution have up to date been handled by about a dozen firms which include most of the major distributors. These firms do not enjoy any monopoly and others will no doubt be added as time goes on. The Ministry considers the merits of each case before accepting the normal trade practice of a "barring out" clause.
