HC Deb 08 September 1942 vol 383 c61W
Sir J. Mellor

asked the Secretary of State for War why adjutants of Home Guard battalions do not receive adjutants' pay; and what officers attached to the Home Guard receive staff pay?

Sir J. Grigg

The question of the rank and pay of adjutant-quartermasters of Home Guard battalions was carefully considered when these appointments were allowed in place of the previous civilian administrative assistant at £300 a year. It was decided that if the rank and pay and allowances of a regimental captain were allowed this would be adequate for the duties without additional pay. Since then a separate officer has been authorised for the quartermaster's duties. The only officers attached to the Home Guard who get staff pay are the General Staff Officers Grade III in those Home Guard Zones which have operational roles.
