§ Mr. Leonardasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that Home Guard wardens have been instructed to return their air-raid precautions water- 2139W proofs without delay; and whether he will countermand this order so far as Scotland is concerned as such garments are essential to meet climatic conditions?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonNormally, Civil Defence personnel only have a waterproof in lieu of a greatcoat, although in some cases local authorities have allowed them to retain both greatcoat and waterproof. When such personnel become members of List II of the Home Guard and are supplied with Army greatcoats, they have to hand in their Civil Defence greatcoats, but it is within the discretion of the local authority to decide whether they should also surrender the waterproof. If my hon. Friend knows of any cases where Civil Defence greatcoats and waterproofs have been withdrawn before the issue of military greatcoats, and will send me particulars, I will have inquiry made.
