HC Deb 22 October 1942 vol 383 cc2120-1W
Mr. Martin

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in view of the difficulties sometimes experienced by parents in obtaining a proper supply of milk for infants, he will consider the supply to local authorities of condensed milk, points free, to distribute where this is considered an appropriate supplement to the child's diet?

Mr. Mabane

Under the Milk (Scheme of Supply) Order infants under 12 months of age are entitled to a priority supply of 14 pints of milk per week and children up to the age of five are entitled to a priority supply of seven pints of milk per week. So far as I am aware there is no difficulty in any priority consumer purchasing the quantity of milk to which he is entitled and I should be glad to receive particulars of any cases where the prescribed quantities have not been obtainable. In the circumstances, there is no necessity for the distribution of condensed milk free of points, apart from the special cases referred to in the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Ipswich (Mr. Stokes) on 14th July 1942.
