HC Deb 21 October 1942 vol 383 c1992W
Dr. Little

asked the Postmaster-General who was responsible for hiring the Post Office telephone line from Belfast to Eire to relay a programme from St. Mary's Hall, Belfast, on 11th October, for transmission on the Athlone wave-length; whether he is aware that the programme has been repudiated by the British Broadcasting Corporation and that it contained jibes at the Prime Minister which caused indignation in Northern Ireland; and whether he will give instructions that no telephone line in Northern Ireland will be hired in future to transmit any programme to Eire unless submitted to him for approval?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I am aware that there are standing arrangements for the lease of wires from time to time in Northern Ireland to the Eire Broadcasting Administration to permit of programmes originating in the United Kingdom being broadcast in Eire. I am making inquiries into the particular broadcast mentioned by my hon. Friend and will write to him as soon as my inquiries are completed.
