HC Deb 21 October 1942 vol 383 cc1994-5W
Mr. Astor

asked the Secretary of State for War what total hours per week are normally worked by officers in general headquarters, Cairo, and in the War Office, respectively; and what leave per month is given?

Mr. A. Henderson

My hon. Friend will appreciate that such officers work as long as their duties require irrespective of fixed hours. In general, officers work at least 51 hours a week both at the War Office and in G.H.Q., Cairo. Officers in the War Office are given a maximum of seven days' leave four times a year. Officers in G.H.Q., Cairo, have no regular periods of leave. They are given a day or two when they can be spared.
