HC Deb 15 October 1942 vol 383 c1789W
Mr. Banfield

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will consider the wastage of gas and electricity due to the prevalence of night baking among 30,000 bakers in Great Britain, with a view of prohibiting night baking in the national interest, seeing that bread and flour confectionery can be made and distributed equally as well by day baking?

Major Lloyd George

I am advised that the assumption stated at the end of the Question cannot be accepted, and that the practical difficulties that would be caused by a prohibition of night baking would outweigh any fuel saving that might result.
