HC Deb 14 October 1942 vol 383 c1647W
Mr. Ness Edwards

asked the Minister of Supply the reasons for taking the employees at Royal Ordnance factories outside the scope of the Workmen's Compensation Acts; and whether he will indicate the advantages in the scheme of hurt pay as compared with the provisions of the Workmen's Compensation Acts?

Sir A. Duncan

Employees at Royal Ordnance Factories are given the option of relying on the provisions of the Workmen's Compensation Acts or of accepting in substitution the Government Scheme. Payment under the scheme is in no case less favourable than under the Acts; in most cases it is more favourable. The main advantages are that the worker gets compensation without a waiting period, and receives free medical treatment, including hospital treatment.
