HC Deb 14 October 1942 vol 383 c1650W
Lieut.-Commander Tufnell

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether there is any difference in the qualifying periods for substantive ranks of non-commissioned officers in the Royal Air Force as compared with the Army?

Sir A. Sinclair

During the war, all promotions of airmen are to temporary rank, which is the equivalent of war substantive rank in the Army. No period of qualifying service in the acting rank is required before promotion to temporary rank.
