HC Deb 07 October 1942 vol 383 c1232W
Dr. Morgan

asked the Minister of Information whether his attention has been called to the fact that the chief censor censors letters from serving constituents in the Royal Air Force to their Parliamentary representatives when such constituents are informing their Members of Parliament of their physical disabilities, such as defective sight, their low grading, and their physical handicap in performing duties allotted to them on service; and whether such censorship is approved by his Department and its continuance intended?

Mr. Bracken

Letters from persons serving in the Royal Air Force are in certain areas examined by Royal Air Force Unit and Base Censorship, and in other areas by the Postal and Telegraph Censorship at the request of the Air Ministry. In each instance the object of the examination is that of operational security only, and censors are not permitted to interfere in any way with the communication to Members of Parliament of such matters as those mentioned in the Question.
