HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c536W
Sir L. Lyle

asked the Minister of Supply whether he will reconsider his decision to terminate the manufacture of No. 8 torch batteries, in view of the fact that these are largely used toy women and the poorer classes?

Mr. Dalton

I have been asked to reply. No decision has been taken to terminate the manufacture of No. 8 torch batteries. Owing to supply difficulties, there will be fewer No. 8 batteries this winter than last, but they are still being made in very large quantities. Increased supplies will be available of batteries of larger sizes which are considerably more economical in raw materials and labour, and in cost, relative to the number of hours of light which they give.
