HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 cc535-6W
Mr. De la Bère

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in connection with the proposed scheme for the concentration of output for the paint, colour and varnish industry, he will give consideration to the fact that the majority of workers employed by the firms which it is proposed to close down are old people and unemployable in other trades; and whether he will consider rescinding or amending the scheme?

Captain Waterhouse

The Paint Concentration Scheme, like all others, has been worked out in close co-operation with the Ministry of Labour. I am assured that there is no reason to anticipate any special difficulties in placing the operatives displaced from closing firms in essential works, whether on account of their age or for other reasons.
