HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c548W
Dr. Morgan

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been directed to the formation of a company or house union by the Jamaica Utilities, Limited, the largest motor-omnibus company in Jamaica; whether this firm's employees have compulsorily to be enrolled as members as against membership of their own representative union, the Tramway, Transport and General Workers Union; whether the president of this new company union is an ex-employee of the older union; and what steps are being taken by the local Jamaican Government to stop the exploitation of the workers by the increased charges and smaller benefits of the compulsory company's union?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

My Noble Friend has no information regarding this matter, but inquiries are being made of the Governor.
