HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c537W
Mr. Hewlett

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, where a soldier's wife has deserted him and is living with another man and as a result his allowance to the wife is stopped, it is the custom equally to stop the allowances for any children he may have so long as they reside with the mother; and how far the improbability of immediately finding alternative accommodation and the unfairness of making the unoffending soldier provide all the income for his unfortunate children is taken into account in the present regulations?

Sir J. Grigg

Under the present regulations family allowance ceases for children who live with a soldier's wife in the circumstances referred to by my hon. Friend. Steps are being taken to continue the issue of the children's allowances in such cases as soon as arrangements can be completed to ensure that the allowances are in fact spent on the children. The new arrangements will be notified in due course.
