HC Deb 19 November 1942 vol 385 c526W
Mr. R. Morgan

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been called to statements in the Report of the Chief Inspector of Factories adversely criticising certain factory defects in respect of ventilation, sanitation, lighting and heating; what steps are taken to effect improvements where difficulties are placed in the way; and whether the defects thus set out include office conditions?

Mr. Bevin

The obstacles in the way of the removal of the defects referred to by the Chief Inspector are mainly—as indicated in the Annual Report—the lack of labour and materials. Close co-operation is maintained with the Departments concerned in order to secure the maximum possible improvement in conditions, having regard to those difficulties. The Report does not relate to conditions in offices.
