HC Deb 18 November 1942 vol 385 cc381-2W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will investigate the case, details of which have been sent to him, of a university graduate, a master of arts and a teacher by profession, now serving as a gunner, whose transfer to a form of service where his special training would be more suitably used has been recommended by a senior officer but has been refused by the Army?

Sir J. Grigg

I have had this case investigated. The soldier's unit was mobilised for service abroad at the time his transfer was being considered. My hon. Friend will appreciate that it is most undesirable to withdraw men from a unit in such circumstances and such withdrawals are only authorised if men are specially needed for other employment or for training as officers.
