HC Deb 18 November 1942 vol 385 c378W
Mr. Sorensen

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he is aware of waste caused by the abolition of return omnibus tickets and the issue of two tickets instead of one; that passengers who formerly purchased return tickets will still have to cover the same distance but that they now have to spend more on fares for two single journeys without any commensurate saving of journeys; and whether the anomaly will be remedied?

Mr. Noel-Baker

In every case where cheap return tickets on omnibuses have been withdrawn, the purpose has been to reduce unnecessary travel. The resulting economy of rubber and fuel outweighs in importance any loss of material for tickets which there may be.
