asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Planning the names and qualifications of the members of the advisory council which has been set up to consider and report upon problems and policies affecting the present and future position of the building and civil engineering industries; and by which bodies such members were respectively nominated?

Mr. Hicks

I assume that the hon. Member is referring to the Advisory Council of the Building and Civil Engineering Industries which has recently been estab- lished by my Noble Friend. The terms of reference of the Council are as follow: the examination and mutual consideration of problems and policies affecting the present and future position of the building and civil engineering industries in relation to the demands of the country's building and civil engineering requirements.

The Council consists of representatives nominated by the organisations of employers and operatives in the Building and Civil Engineering Industries, together with representatives nominated by the professional institutions. The names of the members of the bodies by which they have been nominated are as follow:
