asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in order to save coal and its transportation, he will authorise units to use peat where suitable in districts where there is a local abundance of it, such as in moorland districts of the United Kingdom and in Northern Ireland?

Instructions were issued on 15th March, 1942, authorising the use of peat instead of coal but it had in fact been used by the Army before then in some areas
