§ Mr. Hutchinsonasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that difficulties have been experienced in obtaining eggs for expectant mothers, although they are treated as priority consumers; and whether, in view of the limited supply of eggs new available for non-priority consumers, he will restrict the distribution of all supplies of eggs to expectant mothers, invalids and others who require special diets which include eggs?
§ Mr. MabaneActing on the advice of his medical advisers, my Noble Friend has now made arrangements for certain classes of invalids, expectant mothers and mothers with children under one year old to receive a priority supply of shell eggs at the rate of three per week. The Minister's medical advisers have recommended that this quantity of eggs is sufficient for the nutritional needs of persons within the priority classes. Retailers of eggs have been asked to supply such persons in preference to others. The new arrangements came into force on 18th October, 1942, and my Noble Friend sees no occasion to make further changes in the scheme at the present time.
