HC Deb 26 March 1942 vol 378 c2177W
Lieut.-Colonel Macnamara

asked the Home Secretary, in view of the decision to economise material by simplifying the design of officers' uniforms, why the design of air-raid precautions wardens' new greatcoats has not also been modified, so as to ensure economy in material?

Mr. H. Morrison

The Civil Defence greatcoat is based on an Army pattern for other ranks with one or two slight modifications made to economise material. I am satisfied that the conditions of duty and exposure under which Civil Defence Services work require a coat of this length and type, and am doubtful whether there is any room for further economies. I am, however, looking into the matter.
