HC Deb 26 March 1942 vol 378 cc2176-7W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Home Secretary whether he will call the attention of those in charge of Civil Defence report and control centres where young persons are continuously employed, where artificial lighting only is used and where the Factories Act and regulations do not apply, to the importance of arranging the lighting so that eye-strain may be avoided as far as possible and that the lights are turned away from the eyes and on to the work?

Mr. H. Morrison

The use of artificial lighting in these centres, in view of the standard of protection necessarily provided, is inevitable. It should have been installed with due regard to the avoidance of eye-strain, but if my hon. Friend will give me particulars of any centre where this is not so I will have the case brought to the notice of the responsible local authority.
