HC Deb 17 March 1942 vol 378 c1350W
Captain McEwen

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what percentage of fat sheep graded in Scotland during the months of December, January and February, 1941–42, were sent to England for slaughter; and how do they compare with the figures for the corresponding months of 1940–41?

Major Lloyd George

The percentage of the fat sheep purchased by the Ministry of Food in Scotland which were sent to England for slaughter during December, January and February, 1941–42, and 1940–41, were as follows:—

1941–42. 1940–41.
December 5.8 3.0
January 16.9 5.3
February 11.3 10.5

But the total number of sheep, both alive and as carcases, sent to England form Scotland during the same three months was much less in 1941–42 than in 1940–41.
