HC Deb 24 June 1942 vol 380 c1995W
Mr. Wilmot

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that the Exmoor deer, which might be used to augment the meat supply, are needlessly wasted to maintain the sport of deer-hunting; and whether he will take the necessary steps to preserve, farm and humanely slaughter deer in this and other areas?

Mr. Mabane

As was indicated to my hon. Friend the Member for Central Bradford (Mr. Leach) on 20th May, inquiries have been made into this matter and from these inquiries it would not appear that venison is wasted in the manner suggested by my hon. Friend. The amount of venison available in Great Britain is so small that it would not be practicable to use it to augment the supply of rationed meat.
