HC Deb 11 June 1942 vol 380 c1253W
Sir J. Lucas

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been called to the fact that when individuals have finished a two months' training course at the municipal college training centres they are often kept in idleness for long periods, and certain centres of industry refuse to give them employment on the grounds that eight weeks' training is insufficient; and whether he will take steps to remedy the situation?

Mr. McCorquodale

Whilst provision exists for giving longer courses of training in technical colleges, the normal course is eight weeks, and it has been found that this course can give valuable assistance by training to meet local requirements; longer courses of training are given in Government training centres. I am having inquiry made into the cases of which my hon. and gallant Friend has given particulars and will communicate with him.
