HC Deb 11 June 1942 vol 380 c1263W
Mr. Rhys Davies

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, in view of the fact that detailed reports of the sinkings of Allied and neutral shipping appear regularly in the American Press, and then quoted in our own newspapers, His Majesty's Government will reconsider its policy and publish these statistics in future?

Captain Pilkington

Many of the reports appealing in the American Press and telegraphed to this country are not official. His Majesty's Government still do not consider it desirable to publish statistics of losses and so present valuable information to the enemy.
