HC Deb 10 June 1942 vol 380 cc1068-9W
Captain York

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings whether he will give instructions to all contractors and sub-contractors engaged on laying pipe-lines across and doing other works for war purposes on agricultural land, that when trenches are dug during the work the lines of field pipe drains which are cut shall be made good with a cast-iron pipe across the line of the trench?

Mr. Hicks

The existing practice followed by contractors laying pipe-lines is to make good in similar material any land drains disturbed by excavations and I am not aware of any complaints that the Ministry s contractors have failed in this respect. I regret that I could not agree to the use of cast iron pipes for this purpose.
