HC Deb 30 July 1942 vol 382 cc719-20W
Mr. Lindsay

asked the President of the Board of Education whether, in the registration of young people who attain the age of 16 this year, it is proposed to make the interview as well as the registration compulsory; and whether he is aware that pre-service units have, in most cases, absorbed their prescribed quota of cadets?

Mr. Butler

Before taking a decision on the issue raised in the first part of my hon. Friend's Question I shall consider the advice of the new Youth Advisory Council, which is giving attention to the matter, together with the results of previous registration. As regards the second part, I am aware that in many cases local Sea and Army cadet units have reached their allotted establishments, but new units may be formed within the limits of the total establishments allotted to the areas concerned.
