§ Mr. Bowlesasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that the street lighting in the City of Westminster is left on throughout the day; and will he take steps to put an end to this waste?
§ Mr. T. SmithI am informed that all the electric street lighting in the City of Westminster is switched off in day time, while the gas lights consume so little gas that the labour required for turning them on and off would, in the view of the city authorities, not be justified. The position to which the hon. Member calls attention obtains throughout the country. Labour is in each case the difficulty, but I am exploring means for overcoming this.
