HC Deb 29 July 1942 vol 382 c527W
Sir H. Williams

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport whether he has any further statement to make as to the unnecessary railway travelling caused through the action of Government Departments instructing people to undertake long journeys for the purpose of brief interviews in those cases where the Government Departments concerned have offices all over the country?

Mr. Noel-Baker

All Government Departments are constantly reminded by my Ministry that the unnecessary use of transport services must be avoided. When we learn of apparent breaches of this rule, we notify the authorities concerned, so that inquiries can be made and any necessary action taken against those responsible. My hon. Friend's Question and this reply will, no doubt, serve as a further reminder, and I will see they are brought to the attention of all Departments.
