HC Deb 29 July 1942 vol 382 c524W
Mr. Leach

asked the Minister of Information whether he will arrange, in the broadcasts to foreign countries, to reassure the people of those countries in regard to the trivial outbreak of smallpox in Glasgow, in view of the German broadcasts alleging thousands of cases; and whether he will at the same time point out that the sanitary condition and the food situation in Glasgow are so good that during the first two weeks of the outbreak not one child under 10 years of age in Glasgow contracted the disease?

Mr. Bracken

According to my information the misstatement to which the hon. Member refers has not been given wide currency in German broadcasts. In the circumstances there seems no reason to issue a denial on the lines suggested. The hon. Member will appreciate that if we denied every misstatement broadcast by the Germans, there would be little time for broadcasts of a constructive character.
