HC Deb 28 July 1942 vol 382 cc348-9W
Mr. Lindsay

asked the Minister of Supply whether, in preparing the tyre-rationing scheme, he consulted the Scottish Motor Trades Association; why he does not make use of the tyre manufacturers' own depôts, who have lifelong experience in this business; and whether he will revise the existing list of tyre depôts?

Mr. Peat

The Scottish Motor Trades Association were consulted when the tyre-rationing scheme was in preparation. Tyre manufacturers' depôts do not normally engage in retail distribution and I have no reason to suppose that the course suggested would lead to the more efficient working of the scheme or would be welcomed by manufacturers or tyre distributors as a whole. With regard to the last part of the Question, the list of authorised depôts is kept under review and revised from time to time in the light of experience.
