§ Sir W. Jenkinsasked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that a deputation from the Federation of Education Authorities for Wales interviewed his predecessor before their removal to Bournemouth asking that a separate department be given to Wales to deal exclusively with Welsh educational problems; and will he now consider the request and grant the transfer formerly applied for in view of the general demand for such an office in Wales?
§ Mr. ButlerI am aware that a deputation from the Federation of Education Authorities for Wales and Monmouthshire was received by my predecessor in office as recently as 16th July, 1941, on the question of a separate department in Wales to deal with Welsh educational problems. Having regard to the inconveniences which would result from the separation of the Welsh Department from the administrative branches of the Board 199W and from the executive and clerical grades, the staff of which are common to England and Wales, I do not think, on the information before me, that the formation of a separate Department in Wales would in war conditions conduce to the more efficient conduct of the business of the Department.
