HC Deb 23 July 1942 vol 382 c192W
Captain York

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware of the injustice involved when a Service man is killed in battle and his widow is no longer eligible for a grant of free milk and vitamins for her children; and whether he will reconsider his decision on this point?

Mr. Mabane

The basic regulations of the national milk and vitamins schemes provide that milk and vitamins may be supplied free where the weekly income of two parents is 40s. or less, or of a surviving parent 27s. 6d. or less, plus 6s. in respect of each non-earning dependant. I do not feel that there is any injustice in a person whose income is in excess of the amount mentioned being ineligible for free milk and vitamins.
