HC Deb 23 July 1942 vol 382 c185W
Mr. Naylor

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the general dissatisfaction among voluntary street fire-watchers at the numerous unwarranted abstentions from this service, which add to the number of hours and nights of duty to be undertaken by the volunteers, he will make the duties compulsory for all persons not ordinarily exempt?

Mr. H. Morrison

I am aware that there are persons who are exempt from fire guard duties who should not be exempt. Steps are being taken to remedy this defect and I hope to be able to make a statement shortly.
